Continuation of the big Blic environmental campaign “Let’s clean the rivers of Serbia”

The big environmental campaign “Let’s clean the rivers of Serbia” of the daily newspaper Blic, was joined by the company Vip mobile, with the intention of restoring the watercourses in Serbia with a dignified appearance, as well as to make the environment healthier and more beautiful.

The continuation of the action will be carried out from October to December 2019 with the aim of clearing more than 20 rivers and coastlines across Serbia, and the entire project was supported by the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic.

“We live in the 21st century that will be a century of struggle for water, food and energy, and this will dominate all over the world. These resources are decreasing as they are being used for the development of civilization, while the number of people is increasing. Only 0.5% of water on the planet can be used for human consumption and this is the main reason why we need to manage this life resource differently. Every second, nine cubic meters of wastewater is discharged in 40 locations in Serbia, while each tourist leaves behind one kilogram of garbage. We are a problem to ourselves because we are dirtying our own rivers and nature, and therefore we need to influence the enhancement of ecological awareness and preserve our nature together”, said Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic.

“Let’s clean the rivers of Serbia” is a natural continuation of the previous action of the daily newspaper Blic, which involved over 2,500 people and within which, from 16 locations, 11 rivers and five lakes, nearly 2,000 cubic meters of waste were removed. With the support of the Vip mobile company, the project continues with actions in Kraljevo in which the city promenades along the Ibar River will be cleaned, as well as the estuary of this river in the West Morava. After Kraljevo, cleaning operations will be organized in Krusevac, Nis, Pancevo, Sombor, Backa Topola, Cajetina, as well as in many other places throughout Serbia.

“With the support of Vip mobile, we continue this fall because we do not want to see tons of the most diverse garbage, thousands of plastic bottles, bags and other PVC packaging floating on rivers and lakes across Serbia. Let’s all together show how much we love the beauty of our country, that while fishing, walking or enjoying by the rivers, lakes, forests or mountains, we look only at the greenery and the living world in it”, said Predrag Mihailovic, Editor in Chief of “Blic”.

“The state of our environment is only up to us, so we hope that our action will be an incentive for some broader social initiatives and for creating a healthier environment. Vip has been living this philosophy for years, through a series of environmental activities involving our employees, and we strive to convey these values to our customers and the general public”, said Dejan Turk, CEO of Vip mobile and A1 Slovenia.

“Such actions are of great importance and are a good example of how consensus among the public sector, the media, public figures and companies can contribute to educating our youngest fellow citizens to create the right environmental habits”, added the Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Filip Radovic.
